German Links

German Genealogy, Germans in the USA - A site that I found very helpful in my German research. Be sure to read the section on Genealogical and Historical Records as it has helpful information on where and how to look for records related to you German Ancestors.

A Guide to German Pronunciation - Very helpful site. I mainly used it to determine possible USA spelling variants of German names.

Leo German - English Dictionary - I can't say enough about how helpful this site had been to me. It doesn't just give a definition of a word but gives examples in the various ways it's used, variants, and more. It was very helpful in transcribing German Records.

S. Inland Church Book 2 - The German Congregational, also known as the Salem Community Church. Records from 1912- end of church.

People from Clay County, Nebraska mentioned in other books - A Project I'm working on. Garnered information from a variety of books that mention someone that has lived in Clay County of immediate family members that did.

Random Acts of Genealogical Kindness - A great way to obtain records and help others. Please consider taking the time to Volunteer.

International Genealogical Index (IGI) & Batch Numbers

I have added this as a separate section due the extensive amount of information I've gathered. The IGI is a wonderful index created by the LDS and their members. I suggest reading the article on batch numbers. You do have to be VERY careful though with the IGI. Some of the files are member submitted information and others are records that have been transcribed by the members of the church. The member submitted information is no different than any other un-documented and un-sourced family or gedcom file on the Internet. I can't stress enough to use those for clues only! The records that have been transcribed by the members are a great resource. If you find that kind of record then you're assured that it exists you can obtain a copy of it from the church. Keep in mind though that people do make errors when transcribing records so it is important to look at the document yourself.

The LDS FamilySearch© Website: Using The Batch Numbers - Very clear & concise article about the batch numbering system by Fawne Stratford-Devai. A must read if you want to get the most out of your family search on the LDS site.

The LDS FamilySearch Website: From Batch Numbers to Original Records. - Another great article about batch numbers from Fawne Stratford-Devai.

IGI Batch Number Instructions - Site that details the numbering system & what type of records numbers and letters correspond to.

IGI Batch Numbers - British Isles and North America - A must bookmark site! Be sure to read the sites instructions. "This web site is organized by country, county and town/parish. This allows you to zero in on a specific locale, then select a Batch Number belong to it, and enter a surname of interest. The powerful hotlink from each Batch Number will then connect you to the actual search engine at FamilySearch Internet. This makes it quick and easy to search all the batches for a particular location by family name--something not possible at FamilySearch Internet without a lot of know-how and extra steps." (This description is from Millennia Corporation, makers of my Legacy Family Software. Also the program used to generate this web site)
